History. The Newton Crum family has been sailing & boating for 3 centuries across the world, entering the marine & aviation insurance business 50 years ago. The boat insurance side grew to such an extent that this specialist company was formed exclusively for boat insurance. We never claim to offer the cheapest rates, rather, we pride ourselves on the tens of thousands of letters from clients who were so pleased with our claim settlements they took the time and trouble to write.

Disclosure.You must disclose all relevant facts making sure your answers are factually correct on all communications including proposal & renewals whether by web, telephone, fax or on paper. That includes immediate notification of any change of details once you are insured such as change of mooring or range or use. If not, you may not be covered in the event of an accident, loss or claim.

We provide a specimen policy with all quotations & on our website. Please read through proposal form, quotation and specimen policy carefully as they form the basis of the contract so make sure that the cover meets all your requirements.

Operation. We administer the insurance on behalf of Lloyd's Underwriters including the collection & processing of premiums as agent for the insurer under risk transfer arrangement - insurance premiums received shall be transferred or deemed transferred to the Underwriter immediately on receipt. Please note that where we are not able to quote, we will, unless requested by you otherwise, pass the details you provided to Nautical Insurance Services Ltd who are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority, and have access to other insurance options so may be able to provide quotations were we cannot. If so they will contact you direct as they handle all aspects of quotation, placement, administration, claims and answer any questions direct without reference back to us.

Claims. It is our earnest endeavour to ensure claims are handled fairly and processed and settled properly & quickly which is why with every policy & renewal you receive full claim instructions. Our dedicated claims department acting on behalf of Underwriters has its own switchboard (01424 718811) hours m-f 9-1 and 2-5, and 24 hour fax at 01424 445043 plus a claim form is available 24/7 on our website on www.newtoncrum.com click [claims]. We confirm that Underwriters must not unreasonably reject a claim but must give careful consideration to the circumstances.

Fees & Charges. There is no fee charged by us in providing quotations, or once insured in effecting amendments / endorsements or dealing with any claim. The premiums we quote are fully inclusive which include both our annual non-refundable documentation charge of £11 and insurance premium tax. The premium we quote is the price you pay - there are no hidden extras.

Data Protection. To provide quotations, cover, processing amendments & renewals, we/our associates need to process your personal (including sensitive) data which is done in compliance with the Data Protection Act 1998. If you do not wish us to proceed on this basis please advise and we will cease to act. Claim processing may require enquiry from or information passed to law enforcement, government, credit, survey or claim investigation offices without prior reference to you. You have the right to see certain elements of your personal information we hold, contact the Data Controller at Droxford House for details.

Complaints. Please refer to Key facts below for initial procedure. If you are unhappy with the reply please ask for the file to be passed to a Director to reply direct to you. If you are still unable to resolve the situation and wish to make a complaint you can do so at any time by referring the matter to the Policyholder & Market Assistance, Lloyd's Market Services, One Lime Street, London EC3M 7HA, tel 0207 327 5693, or E-mail: Complaints@Lloyds.com. If they are unable to resolve your complaint it may be possible for you to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service, details of which will be provided at appropriate time.

Renewals.We will use our best endeavours to contact you to ask if you wish to renew, but no insurance will be renewed nor your account billed without your prior instruction.

Law, English law will apply to the contract, unless an agreement is in place prior to the policy or renewal being issued.

Finally, to assist you in determining whether our service meets your requirements, we confirm that on claims we do not have to wait for payments 1st from Underwriters before we pay you as we maintain a large claim payment fund that enable us to make immediate payments.

6. Ownership of Newton Crum Insurance Agents Ltd. (NCIAL)
    The Crum family and directors own 99% of the share capital (55% direct and via interest in Fine Developments Ltd who hold 44%.

7. What to do if you have a complaint
    If you wish to register a complaint, please contact us: in writing The Complaints Manager, at the address you have been dealing with, by phone The Manager at the phone number of the office you have been dealing with. If you cannot settle your complaint here please see Complaints Procedures section overleaf.

8. Are we covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) ?
    Marine/Yacht insurance is not covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
